The University of Gibraltar is welcoming applications for their part-time Master of Business Administration (MBA) programme which starts this September. Delivered locally, it is the first time that Gibraltar-based professionals will be able to gain this qualification here without having to complete a distance-learning course.

The University has worked closely with a University ranked in the top 3% globally to create this programme which also adheres to UK-aligned standards. The Minister for the University, the Hon. Gilbert Licudi QC said, “The start of an MBA programme by the University of Gibraltar is very significant. This will appeal to both international and local students. It shows the progress that is being made in our University being a truly global player in higher education as well as catering for the needs of local students and the business community in Gibraltar.”

Widely considered to be an elite business qualification, an MBA is one of the most effective ways to increase earnings and move up the career ladder. It provides specialist knowledge of most aspects of how businesses are run. The global demand for these courses is high and employers increasingly look for an MBA to fill senior management roles.

Áine Panter, programme coordinator for the University of Gibraltar MBA said, “Students will study a UK- aligned curriculum that includes modules on managing people, strategic decision making, leadership and change management, new technologies, business law and marketing management. The degree is also structured so that students can explore a topic of interest such as Fintech, Gaming or Event Management during their final capstone project, and importantly, our students benefit from the University’s highly personal approach throughout the programme. It is this that sets us apart from opting to study an MBA online.”

As well as receiving a face-to-face learning experience, students will join a tight network of fellow professionals and benefit from the University’s deep links with Gibraltar’s business community. Gibraltar’sbusiness leaders support this initiative by the University. Stephen Reyes, senior partner at Deloitte said,“As chair of the University’s Business Key Advisory group, I am very pleased the MBA programme is being offered in Gibraltar. This will further enhance the growing relationship between Gibraltar businesses and the University. It provides an attractive opportunity for employees to gain valuable practical management skills that they can put to use straight away to enhance businesses. A skilled workforce is an asset to any organisation.”

The part-time accelerated programme involves two years of study and is aimed at working professionals who can fit their studies around existing life and work commitments. Prospective University of Gibraltar MBA students must have a related first degree awarded by a UK university or overseas equivalent plus recent work experience. The programme is also being delivered on a full-time basis.
